December 5 Weather Advisory For Strong Cold Winds And A Warm Up On The Way
December 5, 2024
Thursday Morning Report
Today is going to be uncomfortable. We had the snow squall earlier, and some snow showers may continue for a few hours. I get it! If you didn’t see it and it had melted by the time you woke up, it didn’t happen. But it did.
I was wrong. The first squall arrived earlier when the temps were warmer. The colder air will be about an hour or two later than I expected.
There was a coating inland that melted, and now the freezing air is racing to catch up. Inland areas could get icy elevated steps and other spots that remain wet.
I want to start with what just happened and then move on to today’s wind, cold, and mountain snow.
A warm-up is on the way starting Sunday, with rain next week. Then, cold air returns at the end of next week.
Morning Snow Squall..
It did arrive a little early, and it did coat the ground and elevated surfaces… then melt.
Radar Recap
Snapshot at 6:25 AM
There will be more snow showers and squalls for a few more hours as the cold air spills in.
Wind Advisory and Blizzard Warning
Winds will be the main story: Gusts over 50 mph are possible with the squall line and again in the afternoon.
Heavy snow will redevelop in the mountains this afternoon and evening.
Local Morning Temperatures
Morning Surface Weather
The Clipper is located near Montreal, Canada. Squall lines are spinning around like spokes on a wheel. We had one with the leading edge of colder air… one or two more are still possible. The mountains will kick up their lake-effect snow.
Strong winds are the main story for today as the colder air filters in.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
