November 27 Thanksgiving Storm Forecast Rain Then Winter Cold
November 27, 2024
Wednesday Morning Report
The good news is that we have a quiet travel day, AND Thanksgiving will end dry for most of us.
On the downside, in between, rain will arrive overnight and be heavy on Thanksgiving morning. This will make the Turkey Trots soggy. Heavy rain will last into the afternoon through New England. As we dry out, strong winds will develop in the afternoon and in the mountains there will be snow showers.
This weekend will be windy and colder. Based on the upper-level energy, I am keeping flurries in the forecast, but they will not be a travel problem.
Morning Surface Weather
A dry day with plenty of clouds across the region.
The Thanksgiving Storm is developing to our west. It may not look like much now, but it will organize to bring heavy rain to the big cities and heavy snow farther inland from the Poconos to interior New York and New England.
Much colder air will arrive behind this and set up the cold pattern for the next two weeks.

COLDER
This pattern will reestablish itself into December. Here is the 6 to 10 Day map showing continued cold across the Mid Atlantic and Northeast US.
7 Day Forecast
Our Thanksgiving will start tonight with heavy rain, mostly in the morning. Strong winds will follow in the afternoon, and snow showers will fall in the mountains.
Colder air flows in on Friday. The reason I kept snow showers or flurries in for Sunday and Tuesday is because of the pieces of upper-level energy that will flow overhead at jet stream level.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
