Saturday Morning Report

After setting record-high temperatures this past week, which resulted in two afternoons in the 80s and lower 70s yesterday, we are pulling back closer to seasonably normal temperatures this weekend. Call this a typical Fall Day for a change. With the cool down, the fire danger is a little lower, but still a major concern.

The drought continues to grow. It has been 38 days since measurable rain in Central Maryland. That is about to end with a system arriving Sunday into Monday morning. It will not end the drought but help dampen the ground. If you have leaves to clear or other yard work to finish, today may be the day to do it.

Baltimore Drought Update

  • No Measurable Rain Since October 2nd = 38 Days!
  • There was a ‘trace’ on October 4th and November 1st.
  • Rainfall DOWN -6.88” since Sep 1

Morning Surface Weather

Cooler winds have brought a chill to the Eastern US today. Low Pressure in eastern Colorado, which was responsible for an early-season snowstorm dropping FEET of snow, is warping up and pulling away. That storm pushed rain eastward, and it will arrive here tomorrow.

Rafael is still in the Gulf of Mexico but has been downgraded to a tropical storm with 65 mph winds. Some of that moisture has connected to the larger storm system to the north, but only enough to feed along the front and help the rain survive as it reaches the Eastern US tomorrow.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
