Tuesday Morning Report
The story continues to be about the temperatures and growing drought.
The return flow around High Pressure will pump in warmer temps this week, so the 70s may arrive tomorrow and then become common. Some areas are expected to hit the 80s on Halloween; then we cool back for yet another weekend.
On Monday, there was a flare-up along the Frederick and Washington County border that firefighters in the region had to address.
Turning the corner with more sunshine… It’s just the shift of winds and warm air flowing back in.
The activity with rain continues to pass to our North.

Baltimore only recorded significant rain on October 1. Barely measurable on the 2nd and a trace on the 4th. So essentially it has been about 4 weeks since we had rain:

This is like a summer pattern with High Pressure off the Southeast US coast. A cold front in the middle of the nation will produce showers and thunderstorms. It will run into problems pushing Eastward, diminishing the impact when it arrives at the coast.
This next air mass will shift East, with the cooler air moving away and allowing the next warm-up for next week.
The pattern of a ridge of High Pressure, warmer-than-average temperatures, and dry conditions continues for another week. The jet stream might shift south by the end of next week.
The highest temps of this stretch are expected just in time for Trick or Treaters.
The pattern change might be in the set up for the end of next week.
We can’t seem to get rain! Temps will jump to the 80s for Halloween, then crash to the 50s and 60s this weekend. Next week, there will be another warm-up, and not much rain is in sight, other than a chance for showers on Friday with the cold front.

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site.
