Sunday Morning Report

The weather pattern in the Eastern US is as nice as it gets in late October. We did have a record Low Temperature Thursday morning, so this is our reward on the flip side. Sunshine, warm temperatures, and light winds will continue today. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70s, nearly 20 degrees above average.

If you need an incentive to make the most of our weather, consider this: In two weeks, we will have the end of Daylight Saving Time. Compare sunset today at 6:20 PM, then on November 3, it will be 5:02 PM.

Our warm-up will continue until the middle of the work week, then turn chilly by Thursday.

My Favorite Personal Fall Photo

I was in Philadelphia Saturday morning and captured this in East Fairmont Park near The Art Museum. I wanted to share this one because it is a natural sanctuary in the middle of an urban center.

Morning Surface Weather

HIGH AND DRY! Broad high pressure continues and is shifting to a position to allow warmer winds to flow in.

This same dome is blocking any progress from the tropics.

This weekend, there was a surprise development of two storms.

Nadine quickly became a tropical storm yesterday and moved onshore into Belize and now southern Mexico. Now, it is a ‘depression’ and will have a chance to reenergize when it reaches the Pacific Ocean.

Oscar was named quickly yesterday… yes after I posted in the morning a very low chance for development.

This morning, it had winds of 80 mph, but it is stuck where it is thanks to our blocking High.

TROPICS:

Hurricane Oscar is a very small storm. Hurricane-force winds only extend 5 miles from the center, while tropical storm-force winds reach 45 miles from the center. This had a very small chance to develop yesterday morning, then found a way to spin up in a hurry. You can blame the poor modeling or warm waters—either way, it was not expected to be like this.

It is impacting parts of Haiti, Cuba, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Southern Bahamas. It is not a United States storm.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
