October 18 Frost Advisory Extended South Supermoon Photos And Super Weekend Warmup

Friday Morning Report

This time yesterday, Baltimore’s BWI broke a record low when it observed 32ºF. This morning, the chill has expanded farther south with a new Frost Advisory. This is it! The warm-up will begin today, take us to the weekend and into next week, and there is a chance to get back to the 80s for a few days.

This report also includes some of the top Supermoon photos and an interesting storm spinning up off the coast.

This extends into southern Maryland, but if you are by the water, you should be protected by warmer temperatures.

Supermoon Photos: In Case You Missed It

Before we get to our forecast, I want to show you an interesting feature off the East Coast that developed with the core of the cold air. This created a spin in the atmosphere and formed a storm east of North Carolina. I am pointing this out for two reasons: It is fascinating to watch on satellite AND it may repeat next week. Could this be a pattern worth exploring this winter?

This large swirl, a few hundred miles off the coast, is a strong storm that formed when the colder air arrived.

I showed this on Wednesday, and that cold core is the source of the spin-up.

Here, we can see the color-enhanced Infrared satellite early this morning. That spin is still going strong and moving farther away.

Morning Surface Weather

A large air mass is dominating the Eastern US and pushing that storm off the coast. This will be our primary weather pattern for the next week. The activity has shifted WEST and there will be repeating snow storms in the Rockies.

A noticeable warm up with temps approaching 70ºF.

High Pressure has a lock on the Eastern US.

This will keep us dry with a warm-up each day through the middle of next week.

The next shot of colder air will arrive on Thursday. Similar to last week, it will create a spin off the East Coast and form a storm just offshore.

Thursday

A cold front will end the warm spell and lead us back to a reality cool down to end the week.

Friday

Another spin takes off from the Mid-Atlantic.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. 

There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site.
