October 15 Frosty Mornings And Chilly Afternoons Plus New Atlas Comet Photos And Viewing Tips
Tuesday October 15, 2024
Morning Report
As the autumn chilly pattern settles in, we have our first Frost Advisory in place, reaching some of the inland suburbs. The coldest air is still another day away, so this may repeat or expand tomorrow.
With a start in the 30s and brisk winds, the afternoon will remain in the 50s. The unsettled air will keep more clouds around, plus some spotty showers, only to be followed by overnight clearing to allow for further chill overnight.
Overall, the weather pattern will remain quiet, and once again, we will warm up with plenty of sunshine into the weekend.
The clear evenings have allowed for great viewing of the ATLAS Comet A3. We may have clouds in the way this evening, but we will get back to optimal viewing later in the week.
Morning Temperatures
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure has pushed this cold air mass into Northern Florida. An upper-level disturbance has prompted a cluster of rain showers around the Great Lakes. This may mix with some snowflakes over the highest mountains of Western Maryland and West Virginia. Not much stickage is expected.
Morning Temperatures: Eastern US 6 AM EDT
Radar Simulation 8 AM to 8 PM
Snapshot at 4 PM
Winds at 4 PM
Gusts up to 20 mph may lead to some bridge restrictions.
Afternoon Temperatures
A chilly day with most areas remaining in the 50s.

A taste of Fall arriving in the Eastern US this week.
Snapshot Wednesday Morning
The core of the cold air will drop to our south… This will entrench most of the Deep South in the chill and bring more frost.
Snapshot Sunday
The return flow and large ridge will lead to a big warm-up this weekend.
Weather Animation: Wednesday to Sunday
With High Pressure in control, a whole lot of nothing going on. Just waiting for that warm-up.
7 Day Forecast
Most of this week will remain cooler than average. The chance for frost continues for a few more mornings.
Next weekend looks like a nice warm-up again, back to the 70s with sunshine.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
