September 2 Labor Day Starting To Show The Cooler Pattern For The Week Ahead
Labor Day Monday September 2 2024
Morning Report
Labor Day often marks the end of the summer season, but it may feel like it has already ended. As a new air mass moves in, the winds will increase as the humidity and temperatures drop.
This Morning: You may still have lingering clouds and mild temperatures, it will feel different this afternoon.
A pre-Fall chill will be noticeable in the next few days as many inland areas drop into the 40s during the mornings, and most areas only reach the 70s in the afternoons.
The next change will be a developing storm with rain building in on Friday leading to a soggy start on Saturday. This will be followed by an even cooler air mass.
Temperatures at 7 AM
Can you spot the cooler air on the move?
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure is building in this morning. The new air mass will gradually lower the humidity as the winds increase.
Wind Forecast: 8 AM to 8 PM
A steady flow from the NORTH will gust even higher at times.
Wind Snapshot at 3 PM
These winds will be steady at 10 to 20 mph, with higher gusts.
Temperatures at 3 PM
How warm will depend on how much sunshine you see. It will definitely be cooler than yesterday.

Looking Ahead
Wednesday Morning
High Pressure to our North will signal that we are turning the corner from this chill and starting to warm a little, with winds shifting from the Southwest.
Wednesday Morning To Saturday Afternoon
The breakdown of this air mass will allow a return flow from the ocean on Friday, bringing back moisture for showers and then steady rain to start the weekend.
Snapshot Saturday
There has been a consistent display of rain on this day. Low Pressure may be tracking through our region in the morning, followed by the next cool-down.
NOAA TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK
The trend for the Eastern half of the nation will be COOLER than average.
7 Day Forecast
The warmest we will get this week will be the lower 80s, which is close to average. Then, it will cool down again next weekend.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
