November 30 Colder Winds Lake Effect Snow And Local Snow To Start December
November 30, 2024
Saturday Morning Report
Cold air has expanded across the Eastern US and this winter pattern will continue into the first few weeks of December at least.
Lake Effect snow bands have already brought over 2 feet of snow between Cleveland, Erie, and Buffalo, which will be a big weather story through the weekend. New numbers this morning are likely to show over 3 feet and climbing in the top spots.
An added bonus for football fans may be snow continuing for the Bills home game on Sunday.
In the week ahead, the trend will be another force of cold air every few days. They will keep the winter feel in place and bring in the chance for more snow showers.
Local Morning Temperatures
Morning Surface Weather
Lake Effect Snow is dominating the weather from Northeast Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. This is a very localized and intense event.
There is a broader system bringing moderate snow to the Midwest that will pass through the Mid-Atlantic tomorrow.
Eastern US Temperatures
A sample of Saturday morning with 30s all the way into central Texas and Northern Florida.
The core of the cold has brought below zero temps to the Northern Plains.

Snow showers may be more than shown on this plot. This does suggest they will fall over some of Central and Southern Maryland to Delmarva.
I see snow falling but not much sticking. Western Maryland will get up to 2 inches.

I am using the NWS Map for simplicity.

This clipper will pass well to our north, meaning the portion that reaches the Mid-Atlantic will be weakened and broken up by the mountains. However, some snow showers could mix near and east of the Chesapeake Bay.

This clipper will be the leading edge of the next push of colder air, part of a continued pattern that will bring in even more cold air.
Snapshot Monday
Snapshot Next Sunday
A colder push of air and likely snow showers on the way.
7 Day Forecast
Our cold pattern may get a brief break later in the week. We do have a few days with snow showers. No major storm in this period, but still watching next weekend.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
