Near Record Temperatures Bring High Heat Advisory And Low Air Quality Alert

Monday June 18 2018

A rarity with our weather this year has been heat, and there are still no prolonged heat waves in sight. But we will be getting the most bang for the buck today as temperatures surge to near record levels, bringing with it dangerous heat and poor air quality.  The latest Heat Advisory includes the counties of Pennsylvania, while the primary focus in Maryland will be the poor air quality. The combination of vehicle exhaust, high temperatures, and light wind will allow for harmful ground level ozone to develop.

It is recommended to limit your outdoor activities between 10 AM and 5 PM. When you see the heat index values, you may want to only consider a pool or fountain if you have access to them. Otherwise, indoor air conditioning is the safest bet for children, elderly, and pets.

Temps will cool a little tomorrow and then back to average levels by the end of the week.
