Rain Timeline Sunday May 6

Rain Timeline Sunday May 6

Sunday May 6 2018

It is going to rain again today, but let me explain. Much like Saturday, some places will get more than others. This morning there is a band of heavy rain just along the coast clipping Ocean City. There is another cluster of showers in the mountains. We are int he squeeze play between an old stalled inland cold front and a developing Low Pressure off of the coast (with tropical feed from the Bahamas).  The short version is that central Maryland will stay dry the longest, but showers and some thunderstorms will be developing from the west and arrive during the afternoon. Please see the timeline slider below.

Morning Regional Radar

I started this at noon since I think the morning display was overplayed. Here we see the rain in the western areas first, and then a cluster of heavier rain and T’storms in Virginia move into southern Maryland. Everyone will get into the action by mid to late afternoon.  The beaches get a break from this morning rain but more later today.

Storm Animation

This GFS Model shows how the rain develops inland but is forced to wait while the storm off of the coast does its thing.  We should see an improvement Monday.  Then we will warm back up during the work week.
