Saturday Evening Snow Chat For Next Week

Saturday Evening Snow Chat For Next Week

Saturday January 28- Snow showers and flurries dominated half of this day north of Baltimore near and north of the Pennsylvania line. That was good news for local ski areas, and I am looking forward to the ski jump competition at Roundtop tonight. Before I he’d out there, I wanted to share some good news about more snow that should reach farther south and keep the Faith in the Flakes for central Maryland.

As I mentioned this morning, there are a few little systems on the way during the week, but the biggest one is set for next weekend. I would NEVER lock in on a forecast or even suggest amounts this far out, but I like to keep an eye on the progress from computer model tracking. Especially since this may fall close to The Super Bowl and you may have plans for a party or to travel to one.  The good news here is that in contrast to this morning’s report, there is more agreement with a coastal Low forming and bringing us snow on the cold side. That is in line with the Canadian Model… keeping true to form that this model performs best in cold air patterns.

Let’s take a look at the Canadian and GFS

Sunday night/Monday and Tuesday – Weak Clipper

The most I see out of this is a dusting from flurries and snow showers

Canadian GEM Model

This shows more from the upper level feature on Tuesday morning.  But, that is from a clipper passing through out north. That track usually benefits the mountains and not our region.

Super Bowl Sunday Snow?

Agreement from GFS and Canadian Models…

The GFS Model looks colder than the run I showed this morning. This supports a push of the energy to our south and then east, which is colder for us.

Our 3 year anniversary of the release and our contribution to STEM education is this November. It has been downloaded in 60 countries, and works in both temperature scales. With your support we can expand on the fun introduction to science and real weather.

The Canadian GEM Model

This also shows the coastal with snow.  NOT a major event, but a steady snow with some accumulation.

That’s all I got for now… I will be on the slopes with some friends watching a ski jump competition and hope to share some pics or video.
