Heating Up Again And Truth About The Tropics

Heating Up Again And Truth About The Tropics

Thursday Aug 25 – As summer draws towards a close and schools begin to open, the weather is getting more active. Despite losing about 2 minutes of sunlight each day now, the temperatures will be rebounding. You will notice a little more mugginess in the air today, and perhaps watch the radar for a band of storms trying to head our way from the mountains. Those may fade away as the simulation below shows, but it will bring back an increase in humidity, plus more heat tomorrow. We could be facing heat index values back near 100°F on Friday  As for the tropics, there has been a buzz all week about the threat to the US that has been exaggerated. One storm faded, another should stay well offshore, and a third is the one on the watch list for south Florida.

False Alarm?

Here is a quick look at the showers that will fall apart as they pass east of the mountains this morning.

*If we get a shower or thunderstorm, it will be isolated and time out during the middle of the afternoon.

Temperature Outlook

I am sorry for the bland text output, but I was in a hurry this mooring getting my boys ready for school… Notice the 90s tomorrow, then staying in the upper 80s into much of next week.

There are two systems under watch in the Atlantic. Hurricane Gaston has winds of 75 mph and is moving to the northwest at 17 mph. This system is tracking east of Bermuda and does not appear to be a threat whatsoever to the United States.

The other systems is labeled as Invest 99. This is north of Puerto Rico and heading towards the Bahamas. There is a 50% chance it will develop into a named tropical storm over the next 48 hours. If so, it will be called Hermine. What is more important is the organized heavy rains that seem likely for south Florida early next week.
