Slight Improvement But Still Threat Of Weekend Storms

Slight Improvement But Still Threat Of Weekend Storms

Friday July 15 – There is a cold front on the way and it will bring a refreshing change in the air… west of the Bay today. On Thursday BWI hit 96°F with a Heat Index of 101°F. This might sound ironic, but despite the sultry humidity, there is not a lot of moisture/energy for this front to do much in the form of storms. Well, that is today. Below is the radar simulation showing the subtle line of rain falling apart east of the mountains. However, we can track the drop in dew point as the sign of less humid air. Check this out:

The temperatures will reach the 90s again, but it will feel better this afternoon compared to yesterday. But generating showers or storms from the cold front will be isolated.

Saturday Rain?

As the front stalls across the Bay, there could be a surge of showers in the early morning…. as seen here there may be some rain at the beaches tomorrow morning. The rest of the day is subject to question, but I would not cancel you plans. The best chance of rain will be farther south…

When a front stalls, the harder thing to identify is where it will settle and how active it may get. Here is a comparison of the NAM and GFS Model for Saturday evening. You will notice a big difference in the activity. All I can suggest is that there will be scattered storms in the late afternoon and evening, but not a wash out worth of canceling plans.
