Fathers Day Full Moon And The Summer Solstice

Fathers Day Full Moon And The Summer Solstice

1Moon_SouthRiverSunday June 19 – We are in the for a trifecta of events over the next two days and the weather should cooperate for the most part.  This Fathers Day will be another beauty like yesterday with sunshine and low humidity. A clear sky is important with High Pressure in control as we are about to experience a rare event. Monday is the start of summer and a full moon. That is the first time since 1948, or 68 years. In fact the summer solstice, or when the sun’s position is the farthest north during the year will be at 6:34 PM EDT. This will make for the longest daylight of the year. In Baltimore that is 14 hours and 56 min

  • Sunrise at 5:40 AM
  • Sunset at 8:36 PM

The full moon in June is called the strawberry moon (because they come in season), but also the honey moon. With the sun angle high in the sky, the moon angle is pretty low. Thus the light can appear filtered though the atmosphere and look a bit amber or like honey shining through your windows.

It will be the brightest complete day in 68 years since the longest daylight will be followed by a bright night. But since the full moon is at 7:02 AM on Monday, it will look equally full Sunday and Monday nights. A double chance to enjoy the additional light. *The theory of earthquakes being influenced but the moon’s gravitational pull will be tested more so by the solstice.

Weather:

We should have a mostly clear sky Sunday evening with some high clouds again. But a cold front will arrive late Monday bringing at least a filter of more clouds. Here is a brief look at the outlook as

The week ahead will show a series of cold fronts with multiple chances for storms to break down and threat of the heat dome reaching us. We will get a few hot days including today, but that will not last all week. But on the outer ring of the heat dome, we could get in on some severe weather later in the week.
