41 Tornado Reports And A Blizzard (video)

TornadoPampaTxErikFoxThere was an enhanced severe storm risk on Monday November 16 and it lived up to the hype. A powerful autumn storm combined late season heat with winter cold to clash along the central planes and front range of the rockies. The net result was a a blizzard adjacent to an outbreak of severe weather  that tallied up 41 tornado reports to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center. Note that some may be duplicates of the system, but a few were top of the charts. One storm in particular was up to a mile wide as it charged through Pampa, TX. This image from Erik Fox as the wedge was illuminated whike taking out power lines. Check out the video below. It leveled a Halliburton industrial plant thankfully while no one was inside. See the US report map and adjustment of today’s outlook below the video.

Meanwhile a raging blizzard in Colorado today has already dropped a foot an a half of snow in some mountainous areas, with up to a foot expected in Denver. Winds in metro areas gusting to 50 mph along with the heavy snow. Jealous? This is what the local National Weather Service Office was posting.

Severe Weather Outlook Expanded

The enhanced risk for severe storms today covers a larger area than yesterday’s outlook (map comparison below.  This is important as the scope of upper level energy appears to have held together longer and could impact the intensity of the storm line that will move through our region Thursday morning.

Storm Threat Thursday:

As I highlighted in my last report, the final push of this system will move a line of heavy rain our way Thursday morning. The expanded threat of severe storms today means there may still more more energy and potency as the system reaches us.  Worth watching closely.
