I want to start out by saying I was wrong about the storm. I didn’t materialize. Yes, there are strong winds, high tides, and even waves measured over 11 feet on Saturday in a buoy off shore of Ocean City. But the set up was won by the dry air and High Pressure that passed east of New England. This will turn out as a win for those tailgating and going to the Ravens game. Perhaps a win for them. But my theory that since it is NOT 90F and sunny, the team will get their first win. Chance of showers looks small, but there may also be a chance to see the lunar eclipse tonight. What a change of pace from how this all looked Friday.
I did suggest on Friday that there would be a cut off of the rain, especially around Philadelphia. Could you thank the Pope? The eclipse has hope. See the latest set up below. The week ahead will be interesting as the same energy off of the coast will slow down a cold front mid week. So we have a chance of needed rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then once again there is a chance of a coastal developing and arriving into next weekend.
No Rain For The Ravens Game?
All models look dry. Mostly dry that is. There will be a cool easterly breeze holding afternoon temps in the lower 70s. But the threat of the main rain is gone, only scattered showers possible now. So if you get sprinkled on, don’t call that wrong too. Just not a steady rain as it appeared before the weekend began.
Lunar Eclipse Viewing?
The moon rise this evening around Baltimore is 6:47 PM (sunset at 6:56 PM). The HRRR Model below shows the potential cloud cover. If you were able to see some of the moon last evening, despite some could cover… It is possible we get a similar set up this evening. This would be thanks to the dry air from the High off of the coast. Judging some sun filtered through the clouds this morning, I would say there is a chance, but better if you live north and east. Farther south and west, Washington, Virginia you are less likely.
For all of us on the east coast, the eclipse times are as follows:
- Partial Begins at 9:07 PM
- Total at 10:47 PM
- Partial Ends at 12:27 AM Monday
Coastal Storm Again- Next Weekend?
This long range outlook tries two things: 1) Slowing down a cold front, keeping the chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. 2) Taking a similar result of developing a coastal storm in the Carolinas and bringing it north. This looks more potent with moderate to heavy rain into next weekend.
It is early in the season, so modeling errors will being to show up now. If this doesn’t play out then it will be easy to NOT cry wolf for the next events but think ahead of the guidance.
