Tracking Severe Storms Overnight From Pittsburgh East

Tracking Severe Storms Overnight From Pittsburgh East

Screen Shot2015-08-03 21_20_25My phone has been lighting up with alerts all evening… but from the Pittsburgh area. Yup, I like to know what is happening in a wide area for what could be heading our way. This flare up is on pace with the expected region for severe storms today. So as these storms track east, the question is will they survive the trip over the mountains, while also losing the heat of the day. The latest simulated radar is below.

Typically I rely on the wind direction for support. Metro Baltimore needs a wind from the east our southeast to add moisture and air riding up the hills to meet up with the line, or the mountains will tear it apart.  We don’t have much support tonight. So the outlook appears to show rain reaching as far east as York and Lancaster in PA. In Maryland, the showers begin to fall apart around Frederick/Mt. Airy.  So these areas might get a fresh drink for the lawns and gardens, but doubtful to get more than a drops near and especially south of Baltimore.

This NAM/WRF Model does not support the rain east of the mountains in Maryland.
