Storm Focus On Tuesday Evening: Simulated Radar July 14

Storm Focus On Tuesday Evening: Simulated Radar July 14

This is a quick follow up to the severe storm risk for today. The upper level energy that produced a final total of 532 wind damage reports yesterday still has some punch left to it.  The most important things locally is tracking the energy to produce the storms and the timing that could arrive.  Since the flare up in North Carolina last night, the upper level pattern adjusted the timing for our region.  We will have a warm and humid afternoon, but the focus on the bulk of storms that could turn severe will be this evening and tonight.  Here is the latest simulated radar showing the arriving in metro Baltimore ‘around’ 10 PM. This may shift slightly during the day, but better news for those going to the Taylor Swift concert. The severe storm risk maps below hint at an isolated tornado and large hail. Due to the timing later in the evening, damaging wind would be the main threat.

Notes:

  • The may be more scattered showers during the afternoon than seen here.
  • The cluster from Pittsburgh will track towards Baltimore about 6 hours later.
  • Flooding: The ground is so saturated, a half inch of rain could be enough to flood some areas.
