Easter Turns Chilly Then Monday Morning Freeze Watch And Afternoon Snow Mix

Maryland Weather
Forecast
Warnings

We didn’t time this out well for all the holidays this weekend. We’ve had quite the run of warm air, but the flip back to late winter is really on the way. I know it is hard to imagine, but recall we did have some snow mixed in last weekend.

This past week of high temps at Baltimore’s BWI

  • Tuesday: 78ºF
  • Wednesday: 87ºF
  • Thursday: 85ºF
  • Friday: 72ºF
  • Saturday: 79ºF

Here is the change…

Temperatures Saturday Night

The colder air air on the way. Check out the spread form the 50s to 70s

Saturday Night Weather

A cold front is moving through, which has sparked the showers and a few thunderstorms.

Radar Loop 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

The activity blossomed this evening and erupted in southern Maryland. That is a steady line of heavy rain in St. Mary’s County.. heading toward lower Delmarva.

Easter Temperatures

Sunday 8 AM to Monday 8 AM

It will be a chilly start, and struggle to reach the 50s in metro areas in the afternoon.

Then, the really bottom falls out Monday morning.

Monday Morning: Freeze Warning

These are the most likely areas to drop BELOW 32ºF. There will be more that will be in the 30s and high chance for frost.

Monday Morning Temperatures

There will be plenty of areas above freezing but still down into the 30s. I expect there will be Frost Advisories issued for centrally Maryland/Virginia/Delmarva.

Monday Precipitation:

The storm will tap into cold air aloft, which will allow low based freezing to produce wet snow, graupel, or even small hail (again). I know we just did this last week.

Model Snapshots

I need to point out that let week the model guidance suggested frozen precipitation, but still did not handle it well. SO I would still plan for even more areas to have ‘stuff’ falling in the afternoon.

European ECWMF

I do not expect stickage, but more mixing possible into Central Maryland than shown here.

NAM 3Km

This is still the most aggressive model… And while we see plenty of ‘safe’ green around Baltimore, I would still expect some mixed precipitation in the afternoon. Stay tuned…

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:

I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell.  I didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.

All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.

I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…

It’s part of my charm.
